sewing my first dress

Over the last couple weeks, I’ve been sewing my first dress. I talked about the bias tape experience here. Well I’ve finally completed it and for the most part I am pretty pleased. The pattern is from dottie angel and it’s a Simplicity pattern. I used a grey/black linen. I couldn’t find any vintage patterned fabric that I liked, but will keep hunting. Here are some pictures of the process and the final dress.

The directions were totally foreign to me. I had to look a lot of things up on the computer.

Dress Making

I traced the pattern on ground cover fabric. Cut out the ground cover fabric and pinned it to my fabric.

Here is a shot of the darts and the tie. Love how the darts turned out.

And here is the final unironed dress on the hanger.

Here I am wearing it. Happy that I’m done.

crushing on dottie angel and color

I LOVE me some color!

Here are some new colors I’m crushing on at the moment and want to use in my next crafty art project or pattern. The dresses are from dottie angel.  I whole heartedly admit that I have a HUGE crush on her. Love her blog, her style and her sense of ease. Sadly, she no longer blogs and has temporarily shut down her etsy site, where she sold these gorgeous smocks. Maybe some day, I’ll get to meet her in person.

Dress Color Pallette2

I just bought the smock pattern and am going to attempt to sew my first smock. You can buy the pattern here. What I love most about dottie’s smocks the upcycled fabrics and of course the inspiration for this post, the COLOR.
