Color trends for spring and fall of 2016 are out and they are lovely. The spring colors are on the left of the spectrum and the fall colors are on the right.
Here is a recent picture I took with all of the colors represented.
Which one is your favorite?

I’ve been loving all the rain. It’s made it so green here. Check out what I’ve been capturing.

This week I’ve been watercoloring and working with the images from my latest drawing endeavor.
I scanned the images into PhotoShop. This would make good stickie notes. What do you think?

The holidays are over and I had a free Friday to myself. It’s been raining here in Santa Cruz and I’m loving the results. It’s GREEN, the streams are flowing, and the grass is growing. It’s our spring. Went for a walk and gathered some sketching fodder.
Here is a peek of some of the sketches. I tried to use some different tools to sketch, but always seem to come back to the Micron 5 and Micron 1. 😉

I learned how to make my own font this week. I highly recommend ‘Create Your Hand Drawn Font‘ with Jenn Coyle on SkillShare. I started out by sketching my font in pencil and then filling it in with pen.
Then I scanned it into PhotoShop and cleaned up the letters.
Lastly, I imported them into Illustrator made them into vector files. I made both a lower and an upper case.
Lastly, I imported them into Glyphs, which I got for free for 30 days. Happy me.
Here is what it looks like in word.
Here is what it looks like in a drawing. Love that it matches my style of hand drawn art.

I’ve been learning how to turn my water color sketches into patterns. I talked about it last week here. This week I wanted to share with you my first water color placement pattern. My next goal is to create a hand drawn and a water colored font. FUN!

Happy Turkey Day weekend from North Lake Tahoe!
I’ve been working on creating repeats with water colors. I’m loving this technique. I take an original water color and scan it into Photoshop; clean it up and then import into Adobe Illustrator, where I make it into a vector and create a pattern. Here is a peak at some of my simple watercolor motifs.
Below is the Illustrator half drop repeat. I’m loving the half drops as they hide the pattern better.

I LOVE me some color!
Here are some new colors I’m crushing on at the moment and want to use in my next crafty art project or pattern. The dresses are from dottie angel. I whole heartedly admit that I have a HUGE crush on her. Love her blog, her style and her sense of ease. Sadly, she no longer blogs and has temporarily shut down her etsy site, where she sold these gorgeous smocks. Maybe some day, I’ll get to meet her in person.
I just bought the smock pattern and am going to attempt to sew my first smock. You can buy the pattern here. What I love most about dottie’s smocks the upcycled fabrics and of course the inspiration for this post, the COLOR.
